GPS Fleet Tracking Setup

Connect your GPS provider to see live vehicle locations, odometer, and fuel data.

Overview

SVP supports four GPS fleet tracking providers: One-Step GPS, Samsara, Motive (formerly KeepTruckin), and Geotab.

All providers work the same way in SVP β€” connect once in Settings and your vehicles appear on every map. SVP shows live location, odometer, fuel level, engine hours, and drive status (driving / idle / off) for each vehicle. Data auto-syncs every 15 seconds while you have the GPS Map open.

Connecting Your GPS Provider

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations tab
  2. Find the GPS Fleet Tracking card
  3. Select your provider from the dropdown

One-Step GPS Setup

  1. Select One-Step GPS from the dropdown
  2. Find your API key: log into track.onestepgps.com > Account Settings > API
  3. Copy your API key and paste it into the API Key field in SVP
  4. Click Test Connection β€” you should see "Connected! Found X vehicles"
  5. Click Save

Samsara Setup

  1. Select Samsara from the dropdown
  2. Find your API token: log into Samsara Dashboard > Settings (gear icon) > API Tokens > Add an API Token
  3. Set the token scopes to Read Vehicles and Read Vehicle Statistics
  4. Copy the token and paste it into the API Key field in SVP
  5. Click Test Connection
  6. Click Save

Motive (KeepTruckin) Setup

  1. Select Motive from the dropdown
  2. Find your API key: log into Motive Dashboard > Admin icon > Developers > +Request API Key
  3. Copy the key and paste it into the API Key field in SVP
  4. Click Test Connection
  5. Click Save

Geotab (MyGeotab) Setup

  1. Select Geotab from the dropdown β€” three fields will appear
  2. Enter your MyGeotab Database: this is your company's database name, found in your MyGeotab URL. For example, if you log in at my.geotab.com/company_db, your database name is company_db
  3. Enter your Username and Password for MyGeotab
  4. Click Test Connection
  5. Click Save

Note: Geotab uses session-based authentication β€” SVP re-authenticates automatically on each sync, so you don't need to update credentials unless your password changes.

After Setup

  • Navigate to Fleet > GPS Map to see your vehicles on the live map
  • Trucks also appear automatically on CL Map View, PW Map View, and LC Map View
  • SVP auto-matches GPS devices to your fleet vehicles by VIN or vehicle name
  • If a vehicle doesn't match automatically, edit the vehicle in Fleet and enter the GPS Device ID manually (see the GPS Device ID article)
  • The map auto-refreshes every 15 seconds β€” no manual action needed

Troubleshooting

  • "Test Connection failed" β€” double-check your API key or credentials. Make sure you copied the full key with no extra spaces.
  • "0 vehicles found" β€” your GPS provider account may not have any active devices, or the API key may not have the right permissions.
  • Vehicles showing as "Unlinked" β€” the VIN or name didn't match automatically. Enter the GPS Device ID manually on the fleet vehicle edit page.
  • Map not updating β€” click Refresh to force a sync. If still stuck, check Settings > Integrations for any sync error messages.
