Overview
If you're moving to SVP from another platform, you can import your entire client list at once using a CSV file. SVP supports drag-and-drop uploads, auto-detects common column names, and flags duplicates before anything is saved.
Step 1: Open the Import Tool
- Go to Settings in the left sidebar.
- Click the Import tab.
- Select the Clients sub-tab.
Step 2: Upload Your CSV
Drag your CSV file directly onto the upload area, or click Browse Files to select it from your computer. SVP accepts standard .csv files (comma-separated). If your current platform exports Excel (.xlsx), open it in Excel or Google Sheets and export as CSV first.
Step 3: Map Your Columns
SVP will attempt to auto-detect common column headers (e.g., First Name, Last Name, Address, Phone, Email). Columns it recognizes will be mapped automatically.
For any unrecognized columns, use the dropdown next to each header to manually map it to the correct SVP field. Columns you don't need can be set to Skip.
Step 4: Review the Preview
Before importing, SVP shows a preview table of the first 20 rows. Review for:
- Validation errors — rows with missing required fields are highlighted in red.
- Duplicates — SVP checks for existing clients by matching name + address. Detected duplicates are flagged so you can skip or overwrite them.
Fix any errors in your CSV and re-upload, or skip invalid rows and proceed.
Step 5: Run the Import
Click Import Clients. SVP will process each row and show a summary: how many were added, how many were skipped (duplicates), and how many failed validation.
Tips
- There is no hard row limit, but very large files (10,000+ rows) may take a minute to process.
- You can run the import multiple times safely — duplicates are caught and won't create double entries.
- After importing, review your client list to spot any mapping errors before adding jobs.
